The Dolphin House Golf Tournament has been one of the primary fundraising events for the Dolphin House since 2011; in 2013, after a wonderful little boy was taken by the harsh reality of child abuse, the tournament was re-named. Owen Daniel Reak, son of Jared Reak, Grandson of Eric and Beth Feely, is a representative of all children in the 7th Judicial District whose lives are deeply impacted each year by child abuse.
Owen Daniel Reak was born September 13th, 2010. His family who wrote his Obituary said, “He was bright and full of energy, walking by 10 months of age. Owen was active and fun, enjoying balls of all sizes and colors. His inquisitive mind explored the world about him with excitement and awe of planes and birds, and he loved music.”
Unfortunately, Owen’s life was cut too short. Owen died at the hands of his abuser on April 11th, 2012. His abuser was convicted of “Child Abuse Resulting in Death” and was sentenced to the maximum 36 years in the Colorado State Penitentiary.
It is the prayer of Owen’s family that sharing his story with others will honor the memory of his short life and bring awareness of child abuse to as many people as possible. Education is key, learn and understand the signs of abuse, communicate any concerns with professionals, and take action to protect your children.
