It’s almost April, friends! That means that springtime is right around the corner, as is National Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month. National Child Abuse Prevention Month recognizes the importance of families and communities working together to prevent child abuse and neglect; prevention services and supports developed by this collaboration can help to protect children and strengthen families.
At the Dolphin House, we will be hosting our 3rd Annual Run to Defeat Child Abuse Virtual 5k as a way to increase awareness surrounding child abuse and the collaborations necessary to combat it. A virtual 5K is a fantastic way for people in our community to show their support of our efforts, while also raising the funds necessary for us to continue our work.
Registration for the virtual 5K begins on March 27th on our website at www.dolphinhousecolorado.org. We hope you will join us.
In addition to the virtual 5K, we will also be recognizing National Blue Ribbon Week April 3rd through the 9th; the blue ribbon is the national symbol of child abuse awareness and, by simply wearing a blue ribbon, you can show your support for the cause.
April is also National Sexual Assault Awareness month. Sexual assaults against children have increased dramatically in the last decade, with an average of one report of abuse made to national law enforcement and/or child welfare agencies every nine minutes.
The Dolphin House will be joining the 7th Judicial District Attorneys, Faultless, and the Montrose Regional Medical Center on Saturday, April 22nd for the annual Awareness Walk, with the route and other details to follow.
It is my sincere hope that you will support our efforts and those of our partners as we strive to raise awareness and to further the cause of ending child abuse and sexual assault.
