What Is a Child Forensic Interview?

A child forensic interview is a structured, child-centered conversation designed to gather accurate information from children when there are concerns of abuse or neglect. Conducted by specially trained professionals, forensic interviews are:

  • Developmentally appropriate
  • Trauma-informed and non-leading
  • Focused on the child’s well-being and voice

The goal is to allow children to share their experiences in a safe, supportive, and neutral environment, minimizing the need for them to repeat their story multiple times to different adults.

Why Forensic Interviews Matter

Forensic interviews serve a dual purpose:

  • They help protect children by supporting investigations and legal processes
  • They promote healing by reducing additional trauma and stress

By coordinating with law enforcement, child protection, medical professionals, prosecutors, and mental health providers, Dolphin House ensures a multidisciplinary approach that keeps the child at the center of every decision.

The Heart of the Process: Our Forensic Interviewers

During National Forensic Interviewers Week, we proudly recognize and celebrate the dedicated team of forensic interviewers at Dolphin House. Their work requires exceptional skill, patience, and compassion. Every day, they create space for children to be heard—often during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.

Our forensic interviewers are:

  • Highly trained in evidence-based interview practices
  • Committed to child safety and dignity
  • Skilled at building trust and rapport with children of all ages and abilities

Their work not only supports investigations—it helps children begin to reclaim their sense of safety and control.
