What Is a Child Forensic Interview?
A child forensic interview is a structured, child-centered conversation designed to gather accurate information from children when there are concerns of abuse or neglect. Conducted by specially trained professionals, forensic interviews are:
- Developmentally appropriate
- Trauma-informed and non-leading
- Focused on the child’s well-being and voice
The goal is to allow children to share their experiences in a safe, supportive, and neutral environment, minimizing the need for them to repeat their story multiple times to different adults.
Why Forensic Interviews Matter
Forensic interviews serve a dual purpose:
- They help protect children by supporting investigations and legal processes
- They promote healing by reducing additional trauma and stress
